Sam Drew, MBA is a seasoned entrepreneur and investor with a decade of experience in the surgical simulation space. Mr. Drew is co-founder, president and chief executive officer of Surgical Training Simulators, Inc. He was president and CEO of KindHeart, Inc., a surgical simulation company which acquired by Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) in 2021. In this role, he oversaw the focusing of the company’s sales efforts on medical device companies and the subsequent stabilization and growth of revenue. He built a team of staff, consultants and subcontractors to service existing markets, develop the next generations of simulators, and facilitate international expansion.
Prior to KindHeart, Mr. Drew was Director of Investment Management at Lookout Capital, an early-stage private equity firm. He received his MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC, where he was awarded the Integrity Core Value Award. Prior to his MBA, Mr. Drew had a 20 year career in civil engineering and construction. His undergraduate degrees are a Bachelor of Geomatics (Honors) and Bachelor of Science from The University of Melbourne, Australia.
Tim Sullivan, M.Sc. is an accomplished sales leader and innovator with over 25 years of success in the medical device industry with a continuous growth mindset. Mr. Sullivan is a co-founder of Surgical Training Simulators, Inc. For twenty years, he has worked specifically in the surgical hemostasis and sealant market, selling into 14 different specialties, including cardiac, neurosurgery, transplant, orthopedic, GYN, and general surgery. Currently leading Baxter Advanced Surgery’s sales training transformation, Mr. Sullivan collaborates with leadership, marketing, medical, R&D, and AI technology leaders to develop and implement the next generation of sales strategies, tools, and systems. Throughout his career, Mr. Sullivan has taken on various leadership roles and initiatives, expanding his comprehensive expertise in varied disciplines including sales, sales management, training, strategy, innovation, and execution. In each of these roles, he has developed adaptable, replicable, and scalable tools and systems, increasing sales and improving outcomes for patients, surgical teams, and hospitals. Mr. Sullivan’s strong relationships with industry partners and customers provide a constant feedback loop, integrating current experiences and perspectives to support analyzing trends and anticipating the forthcoming needs of the market.
Mr. Sullivan holds a B.S. double major in Marketing and Psychology, and a M.Sc. Master’s degree in Sport and Performance Psychology, with additional university coursework in engineering and industrial design. Combining insights into human performance behavior with practical sales strategies, he is able to share tactical strategies and measurable actions for success, making him a respected and influential figure in the healthcare sales sector. Effective, consistent, profitable, sales enablement is a high priority. In pursing innovation and opportunities in this space, Mr. Sullivan’s deep experience and relationships, combined with his knowledge of this sales process and understanding of the market trajectory, make him a uniquely valuable asset.
Matt Miller, PhD. has worked in the technology industry for more than forty years with significant experience as an investor, director, and operating executive. Dr. Miller is co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Surgical Training Simulators, Inc. He was Chairman of the Board of KindHeart, Inc., a surgical simulation company acquired by Intuitive Surgical in 2021 and A serial entrepreneur, Dr. Miller was CEO of Multispectral Imaging from its formation in 2004 through its sale in 2008. He was CEO of NxtWave Communications, a leading supplier of semiconductor chips for emerging digital television markets world-wide, from 1997 until its acquisition in 2002 by ATI Technologies. Prior to NxtWave, Dr. Miller was Vice President of Technology at General Instrument Corporation, where he was a line report to Donald Rumsfeld during the company’s privatization and turn-around period as a Forstmann Little portfolio company. He played a significant role in the formulation and execution of the company’s broadband digital strategy, including major contributions to the development of digital television, optical communications for cable television, and cable modems. Before joining General Instrument, Dr. Miller was Vice President of Technology at Viacom, a horizontally integrated communications company with interests in cable and satellite television.
Dr. Miller has consulted extensively to both the private equity and venture capital communities and has served on numerous boards of directors of public and private companies in addition to having served on investor advisory boards. He is co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Thea Energy, a commercial fusion energy company spun out of the Princeton Plasma Physics Labs in 2022. Dr. Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D.in physics from Princeton University.
